13/10/2010 Lorraine, Caloundra Church of Christ:
I looked forward to the planned day for the Fresh Horizons programme - "making the most of life's second half". I had been praying that God would guide me into an area where I could truly make a difference. Although involved in Community groups in leadership roles, I sought the Lord for a new spiritual role.
I was so impressed with Dixie Tanneberg's talk as she spoke at length of the wonderful ministry she has in her church in America, mentoring a number of ladies both young and old on a weekly basis. It touched my heart as Dixie told her story. I continued to pray "O use me Lord, use even me."
After church one Sunday morning, I was delighted when a young married lady approached me and asked if I would mentor her. She had no idea of Dixie's talk! Our faithful God at work!
We are now meeting together each week. It is a privilege to listen to her story. I pray that God will bring healing and wholeness to her life. I thank God for this amazing privilege to share in this way.

1/05/2010 Rhyll, Caloundra Church of Christ:
We have a "Care to Quilt" group that makes patchwork quilts.
These are given to the foster children within the Pathways programme run by Churches of Christ Care, Queensland. Since 2006 we have made and distributed 550 quilts. Some ladies are accomplished patch workers, others are learning, some are young, some are old. All have a heart for children and want to be part of a worthwhile ministry. "Care to Quilt" also provides a safe haven for ladies who are new to our church and who are looking for friendship and encouragement. We have fun times together.
We marvel at the never ending supply of fabric that God provides for us through many sources. Sadly, the number of children coming into foster care means our task will never end. We sew a label on each quilt that is a constant reminder that there is a God who loves them dearly, and He will not abandoned them, even when they may feel very alone.

10/04/2010 David, Hume Ridge Church of Christ, Toowoomba:
We have an active Shed Ministry for men.
Following a cuppa, chat and devotion time, jobs are given to men according to their skills. A trailer was repaired and tail lights rewired, a doll's house is having house lights installed and wired up, a donated woodfired heater has been cleaned up, polished and sold. A large industrial metal cutting bandsaw has been repaired, cleaned and sold. A donation has been given for Vanuatu for manufacture of coconut oil products by the local folk.
Following a conversation with a Toowoomba community man re our need for woodworking machines, he rang some days later and said to bring a van to his house. A brand new Triton electric wood sawbench and stand, Triton woodworking router and vacuum system was given to the men for shed work. Already almost 300 ply boards have been cut and painted as blackboards to fit into the bottom of the shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse Christmas gifts for children overseas. Small boxes of chalk will be added when being packed.
